Cadillac’s Formula 1 Debut: The Search for the Perfect Driver
The upcoming season of Formula 1 is set to witness a new entrant, as General Motors-backed Cadillac gears up for its debut in 2026. With the team already making significant strides in car design and developing its own power unit, approved for use from 2029, the focus now shifts towards identifying the ideal driver pairing.
The Driver Selection Process Explained
Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports, the parent company of Cadillac, has confirmed that the team is in no rush to finalize its driver lineup. “We’re not in a hurry to select a driver,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of thorough evaluation and due diligence.
Towriss further explained that performance is just one aspect they consider when selecting drivers. Experience, feedback on the car, and simulator performance are also crucial factors. He added that there are numerous conversations taking place, with a lot of interest in this team, for which they are grateful.
The Role of an American Driver
While specific names have been linked with the team, Towriss hinted at the possibility of an American driver joining the lineup. However, he clarified that the focus is on finding the right person at the right time, rather than rushing to fill a seat.
Towriss reiterated the team’s commitment to having an American driver, but stressed that it doesn’t necessarily have to happen in 2026. The goal is to ensure the chosen driver’s success and respect for the seat, which may require a more thoughtful and strategic approach.
