[Miami Sprint Race: Penalties Alter Final Results]

The Miami sprint race, a wet-to-dry contest spanning 18 laps, witnessed a series of penalties that significantly reshuffled the final results. Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson was among those affected by these penalties.

[Lawson’s Controversial Collision with Alonso]

On lap 14, Lawson made contact with Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin while attempting an overtake. The collision occurred at Turn 11, with Lawson’s front-left tagging Alonso’s right-rear, sending the two-time world champion into the barriers.

After the incident, both drivers had contrasting opinions. Lawson felt he was not to blame, while Alonso believed the collision was inevitable. Haas driver Oliver Bearman, who was closely following the pair, commented, “Typical Lawson.

[Penalties and Their Impact]

The FIA’s race stewards sided with Alonso, handing Lawson a five-second penalty for his overtake maneuver. This penalty resulted in Lawson losing his seventh-place finish. Additionally, penalties were issued to Alex Albon for not respecting the minimum time under the safety car and to Oliver Bearman for an unsafe release.

These penalties significantly impacted the final results, promoting Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda from ninth to sixth place, earning him three points for his second points finish with Red Bull. Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Alpine‘s Pierre Gasly also moved up into the points in seventh and eighth respectively.

[Leclerc’s Reprimand]

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc received a reprimand after driving with a car in dangerous condition. Despite crashing out on the laps to the grid, Leclerc continued for four corners before being asked to park his damaged car by the team. The stewards were not pleased with this action.
