[Fernando Alonso’s Misfortunes in Formula 1 Uncovered]
Despite his two-time world champion status, Fernando Alonso is yet to secure a point in the 2025 season. Qualifying fifth for Aston Martin in Italy offered him the best opportunity to break his duck this season. However, an early pit stop and a virtual safety car period marred his race, allowing rivals to save time with fresh tyres. To add to his woes, a full safety car later in the race prevented Alonso and teammate Lance Stroll from pitting again due to limited tyre options.
[Alonso’s Radio Exchange Reveals His Frustration]
Expressing his discontent over the team radio, Alonso labeled himself as the “unluckiest driver in the world,” using a censored swear word for emphasis. Asked if he could change his luck with a mascot or prayer ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, Alonso attributed Aston’s lack of pace as the primary cause of his hardships.
[Alonso’s Reflections on His Misfortunes]
Alonso dismissed superstitions and attributed their uncompetitive performance this season as the root cause of his misfortunes. He stated, “I don’t believe in all those things. So it’s what we deserve, probably. We’ve been unlucky many moments, I think this year we’ve been uncompetitive – which is the unluckiest part of everything.
[Alonso’s Past Successes]
Alonso emphasized that his previous successes, including two-time Le Mans winner and WEC champion, 24-hour Daytona champion, prove that he is not as unlucky a driver as he had claimed in the heat of the moment.
[Alonso’s Radio Exchange Sparks Controversy]
Alonso seemed frustrated that his radio exchange had been made public but acknowledged that such conversations are part of Formula 1’s normal rule. He clarified, “These kinds of things are always frustrating in the car, but as I said, this is a very private conversation with my engineer and my team; we do the debriefs, we say how uncompetitive we are, we say how competitive we certainly are in Imola, and we could score points, we spend the whole Sunday on the strategy, looking for these first points.
[Alonso’s Perspective on His Luck]
Alonso reiterated that he does not consider himself unlucky. He concluded, “But I don’t consider myself unlucky. I mean, two times world champion, two times Le Mans winner, WEC champion, 24-hour Daytona champion – so if I’m unlucky, I cannot imagine the other 18 drivers here.
