Toto Wolff Backs Lewis Hamilton to Regain Form at Ferrari

Mercedes Formula 1 boss, Toto Wolff, has expressed his belief that former driver, Lewis Hamilton, will rediscover his exceptional form while racing for the new Ferrari squad. After a challenging start to the season, Hamilton secured a pole-to-flag victory in China, hinting at the seven-time world champion’s untapped potential.

Hamilton’s Struggles Compared to Leclerc

Despite his brilliance in China, Hamilton has struggled to match teammate Charles Leclerc’s performance on most race weekends. After a particularly difficult Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Hamilton admitted feeling uncomfortable in his new machine. In contrast, Leclerc secured a podium finish – Ferrari’s first of the year.

Wolff believes that Hamilton’s form will improve as he acclimates to his new environment, citing the China weekend as evidence of the Briton’s unwavering talent. “I think we’ve seen that magic in the [Shanghai] sprint race,” Wolff said at the Miami Grand Prix. “He was completely dominating that race.

According to Wolff, Hamilton’s exceptional form is not a one-time occurrence; it’s a consistent trait that will resurface once he aligns all his performance contributors and feels comfortable with his car. “If he aligns all of his performance contributors, if he feels being in the right space, the car to his light liking, he will be stellar,” Wolff said. “I have no doubt about that.

Adjustment Period Expected for Hamilton

Despite his struggles, Wolff is not surprised by Hamilton’s adjustment period, echoing sentiments expressed by Carlos Sainz, the driver who Hamilton replaced at Ferrari. “I’m also not surprised that it has those road bumps,” the Austrian added. “He’s been with us 12 years. The way of operating, he’s being put in a where his team-mate has been for a long, long time, and his team-mate clearly is one of the very good ones.

If viewed from an outsider’s perspective, Wolff believes that Hamilton’s trajectory in a top team like Ferrari is typical for any new driver. “If I look from the outside – and speaking to him – I think it’s a trajectory that any new driver needs to go through in a top team.
