Spanish Driver Carlos Sainz Admits Discomfort in Williams Formula 1 Vehicle
After a disheartening performance in the Chinese Grand Prix sprint qualifying, Spanish racing driver Carlos Sainz has admitted that he still doesn’t feel at ease in his Williams F1 car. Having transitioned from Ferrari over the winter, Sainz had set the pace during pre-season testing before crashing behind the safety car during the Australian Grand Prix last weekend.
Sainz Struggles with Balance and Adaptation
In Saturday’s sprint race in Shanghai, Sainz could only manage 13th place on the grid – a stark contrast to his teammate Alex Albon who advanced into the top 10. Reflecting on his difficulties, Sainz stated, “I’ve had trouble with the balance all day, and both sessions have been quite challenging.”
During sprint qualifying, Sainz encountered several issues, including an unusual sensation with the seat that they will investigate. Ultimately, he attributed his struggles to not yet feeling at home in the car. “We were grappling with some balance problems, and particularly as we moved into Q2, I wasn’t sure where to find the necessary speed, and there was a bit of overdriving,” he admitted.
Sainz acknowledged that he still has much to learn about his new vehicle and is confident that with more experience, he will adapt. “I know, with more mileage, it will come. I hope we can put everything together tomorrow and improve today’s result for Sunday.”
