Helmut Marko Suggests Sebastian Vettel as Potential Successor at Red Bull
Helmut Marko, a key figure in nurturing some of the modern era’s motorsports giants like Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz, and Daniel Ricciardo, has proposed Sebastian Vettel as his ideal successor for Red Bull’s top motorsport advisory role. Since 2005, Marko has been a significant part of the Milton Keynes-based team’s senior management.
Marko’s View on Vettel as a Successor
In an interview with Sky Germany, Marko expressed his belief that Vettel would be an excellent candidate for the succession. He acknowledged that age and travel demands could eventually limit one’s capacity to perform the role effectively. However, he expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of Vettel taking over, given his involvement in Red Bull’s junior program and his strategic leadership experience in Formula 1.
Marko emphasized that this role is something Vettel aspires to do in the future and suggested that he wouldn’t require much time to adapt. He believes that Vettel could grasp the responsibilities within a few races. This new approach, according to Marko, seems appealing to Vettel, who has found his post-racing calling.
Marko further added that Vettel is passionate about motor racing and can manage his other interests, such as owning forests in Austria, alongside this role. Marko worked closely with Vettel throughout his Formula 1 career, which culminated in four world drivers’ championships with Red Bull.
Since retiring from racing at the end of 2022, Vettel has made only a few appearances in the paddock, dedicating most of his time to environmental causes. His latest endeavor was hosting an event in Saudi Arabia celebrating women in motorsports.
