Honoring the Life and Legacy of Eddie Jordan

Today, we bid farewell to a true icon of the motorsports world – Eddie Jordan. Known for his charisma, quick wit, and unparalleled spirit, he passed away at the age of 76 on March 20, 2025. As tributes pour in from across the globe, we remember the extraordinary life of this remarkable man.

Tributes from the Motorsports Community

David Coulthard, former F1 driver and co-host of the Formula for Success podcast alongside Jordan, shared an emotional tribute to his friend and colleague via Instagram. He had known him for many years both in and outside the paddock. He said:”Eddie Jordan was a force to be reckoned with beyond what anyone could expect in motorsports. He was a gift to motorsports & he was a gift to Ireland,” he wrote. “You never knew quite where his madness would take you next, but you always got there with a smile on your face.”There will be endless people telling Eddie Jordan stories as long as there is still motorsports around. It has been an honor calling him and friend & all of our love to his family & his four children, Mikki, Zoe, Kyle & Zak.”

Bernie Ecclestone, former F1 chief, also reached out with kind words, via RacingNews365:”He was a very special person, and today, in motorsports, I don’t know anyone who I can say is like Eddie,” Ecclestone exclusively told RacingNews365 from his home in Switzerland.”He was full of games and jokes and just a very pleasant person. I never heard him genuinely complain about things. He would complain, but, as it was always with him, he wasn’t too serious. It would always be a bit of a joke.”Eddie was a very special person, the thing about Eddie, of course, he was a true racer. There’s nobody around today in motorsports quite like him. He’s the sort of guy that could really get himself into all sorts of trouble and yet find his way out of it. He was special.”He continued: “He always used to find a sponsor to look after things so he could keep dealing. He was a fighter. He would always come up with something to solve a problem.”

F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali spoke out, hailing Jordan as someone who “always knew how to make people smile.””We are deeply saddened to hear about the sudden loss of Eddie Jordan.”With his inexhaustible energy he always knew how to make people smile, remaining genuine and brilliant at all times.”Eddie has been a protagonist of an era of motorsports and he will be deeply missed.”In this moment of sorrow, my thoughts and those of the entire motorsports family are with his family and loved ones.”

Carlos Sainz, Williams driver, also added his condolences:”Extremely sad to learn that Eddie has passed away. A true icon and loved character of our sport. Passionate, loyal and truly one of a kind. He will be dearly missed. R.I.P.”Esteban Ocon, Haas driver, shared his feelings on the late entrepreneur:”I was lucky enough to know Eddie. A great character of our sport and an even better person. My thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP Eddie.”George Russell, Mercedes driver, also posted his condolences to social media:”A very sad day. We have lost a true legend with a voice unlike any other in and out of the sport.”My thoughts and condolences are with Eddie’s family and loved ones at this time. Eddie, you will be missed by all of us and your impact will always be felt. We race this weekend for you.”Mercedes F1 team joined their driver in the tribute:”We are deeply saddened by the passing of Eddie Jordan, a true motorsports legend who contributed to, and shaped the sport, in so many ways. Our thoughts go out to his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

Christian Horner, Red Bull chief, posted his tribute to Instagram:”Very sorry to hear Eddie Jordan has sadly passed. Eddie was a hugely colorful character who I first met in 1991 as a young driver at his then new factory after his first year in motorsports.”His advice, ‘get a good sponsor… welcome to the Piranha Club!'”I was fortunate to overlap with him when I came into motorsports. He was in the twilight of his career race wise (indeed he even tried to sell me his team!) but went into other media activities where he was always full of energy and fun to work with.”Formula One has lost a legend and we will miss his wit and his charm. On behalf of Oracle Red Bull Racing we send our sincere condolences to Marie and the children at this sad time; our thoughts are with them.”God speed Eddie!”

Zak Brown, McLaren Racing CEO, joined the tributes:”All at are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Eddie Jordan. Eddie was a vibrant figure who always wore his heart on his sleeve.”His passion for motorsports was enormous and he leaves an incredible legacy. All of our thoughts are with his family and friends.”Martin Brundle, who raced with Jordan in Formula 3 and, when he turned his hand to television, worked with him as a pundit, gave a fitting tribute through Sky Sports F1:”Eddie Jordan was one of the biggest characters of motorsports, absolutely irrepressible,” Brundle said. “Everybody loved him. The sport will be poorer without him because of what he achieved and what he stood for and just what a racer he was.”David Kennedy, former Shadow Grand Prix driver, said the following to Planet F1:”He was a one-off. There’s no question about that. It’s a very sad occasion. He had a magic gift. He was a great ambassador for the sport in general, and particularly for Irish motorsport.“There were three of us who really started at the same time – myself, Derek Daly, and Eddie Jordan, and we were probably the first vanguard that left Ireland to seek our fame and fortune in the UK.“Where Eddie went one way, into team Racing and team management, myself and Derek went into driving.“But what Eddie did… he had a magic gift.”

Jake Humphrey, who worked with Jordan at the BBC, shared his sadness:”Utterly devastated. EJ has left us,” Humphrey wrote. “Motorsports won’t see the likes of Eddie ever again where a guy with a love for racing can hustle his way into the sport and end up winning races.”More important than race wins though, he won hearts. I will never forget how his face would always light up whenever he saw a Jordan GP jacket, flag or cap… as we travelled the world together years after the team had been sold.”His greatest achievements were Mikki, Zoe, Kyle and Zak. His incredible four kids who share his spirit. His wife Marie is one of the strongest, most wonderful women I have ever met.”The four years we spent together hosting F1 on the BBC were the greatest of my career. Wing-walking, scooter riding, car driving madness that I know he loved deeply.”His incredible spirit and love of life lives on in me, and my children who were lucky enough to meet him and hear all about him.”Eddie lit up a room whenever he entered it. That is a lesson for us all – be the light in the room. I was lucky enough to share one final, cherished meal with him and his boys a few months ago. It was special. We talked about me doing one final interview with him. Sadly that will never happen.”As I left his final words were ‘I love you brother’ One of the Three Amigos is gone. The world seems a little less bright this morning. Farewell friend. Play the spoons up there for me.”

Jordan, who gave Michael Schumacher his first shot at Formula 1, leaves a lasting effect on all of us who love and watch the sport. Forever transformed by the stamp he left, his impact will always be felt.
