Ecclestone Anticipates Ferrari’s Continued Support for Leclerc in 2025
Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has joined the prestigious Maranello outfit, Ferrari, after a successful 12-year tenure with Mercedes. However, former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone predicts that will still favor Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc in 2025.
Ecclestone’s Perspective on the Upcoming Constructors’ Championship
During an interview with Reuters, Ecclestone expressed his hopes for the 2025 constructors’ championship, stating, “You’d have to obviously think McLaren and I’d like to see Ferrari win.” He further emphasized that he believes Leclerc has a better chance of winning than Hamilton.
Ecclestone’s sentiments stem from the fact that Ferrari has consistently portrayed Leclerc as the future of the team, with his impressive performances in 2024 solidifying this belief. His first home victory in Monaco and triumph at Monza have only strengthened ‘s faith in him.
The Dynamic Within Ferrari in 2025
It will be intriguing to observe the team dynamics within Ferrari in 2025. Team principal Fred Vasseur has a long-standing relationship with both drivers, having been Leclerc’s team chief at Sauber for his rookie F1 season in 2018 and winning Hamilton’s GP2 championship in 2006 with ART Grand Prix.
Speaking about what he feels Hamilton will bring to the Italian outfit, Vasseur previously told Autosport, “I am convinced that Lewis will come with his own experience, with the background of 18 years in F1, with a couple of titles and so. And it will be a real push to keep this mindset, to try to do a bit better everywhere.”
Vasseur also recalled Hamilton’s competitive spirit from their time together in junior single-seaters, stating, “I perfectly remember with Lewis in 2005-06 that he was already like this, pushing on the small details.” He added that they need to focus on the minor details to compete against top teams like Red Bull and Mercedes.
Vasseur believes that Hamilton’s experience and competitive mindset will be valuable assets for Ferrari as they strive to close the gap between themselves and their rivals in 2025. It remains to be seen how the dynamic within the team will unfold, with both drivers bringing their unique strengths to the table.
