Formula 1 Driver Pierre Gasly Shares His Football Ambitions in Monaco
Alpine driver Pierre Gasly, co-owner of French Championnat National club FC Versailles, donned the captain’s armband during a charity football match held on the eve of the Monaco Grand Prix. This event brought together several F1 racers, including Oliver Bearman, Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Isack Hadjar, and local hero Charles Leclerc.
A Star-Studded Charity Match for a Good Cause
The match took place at Stade Louis II, home of AS Monaco, with proceeds going to both the local drink driving campaign Be Safe and the Jules Bianchi Association. Ferrari driver Leclerc kicked off the game alongside two-time F1 world champion Mika Hakkinen. Sainz reportedly displayed his Spanish flair by providing an assist in the match, although there is little verified football footage available as the team consisted of drivers, former professional footballers, and celebrities.
Speaking about his experience, Gasly expressed his love for football, stating that the enjoyment was a perfect score of 100 out of 10. He reminisced about his childhood days when he played football and cherished every game and practice. The event, held in an iconic stadium, reminded him of some of his childhood dreams.
Gasly shared that it was unique to share a moment where rivals on the track worked together for this event. He mentioned playing alongside Isack Hadjar on one side and defending with Carlos Sainz. Leclerc, who played football in the past, was also part of the team-building exercise.
When asked about his opinion on the greatest footballer of all time, Gasly declined to choose between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Leclerc pointed out that he had overlooked France and Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane as an iconic figure in his childhood.
When asked about Hadjar’s potential to play for FC Versailles, Gasly praised his effort but questioned his ability. He suggested that Hadjar might find a role in the club’s management instead of on the pitch.
