McLaren Driver Struggles on the Streets of Monaco but Secures Third Position for Tomorrow’s Grand Prix

In a challenging weekend marred by numerous collisions with the circuit’s walls, McLaren‘s Oscar Piastri managed to secure third position for tomorrow’s Formula 1 race at the Monaco Grand Prix. The Australian driver, who had a slow start yesterday after hitting the barriers head-on at Sainte Devote, continued to struggle throughout the sessions.

A Weekend of Wall Clippings

Despite less serious collisions since his initial mishap, Piastri’s encounters with the Monaco circuit’s walls persisted, plaguing almost every session he ran in. This trend continued during qualifying, where Piastri clipped the barriers multiple times, prompting him to ask his team to check the car several times over team radio.

After the session, Piastri admitted that it had been a “messy” weekend for him. “I think I’ve hit more walls this weekend than in my whole career,” he said. “It’s been untidy.” Despite these challenges, Piastri felt happier with his performance during qualifying and was pleased with the third position he secured.

A Decent Result Amidst a Messy Weekend

Piastri will line up for tomorrow’s race in third place, behind hometown hero Charles Leclerc and team-mate Lando Norris, who took pole position in the principality. The result marks just the third time this season that Piastri has failed to make the front row in qualifying.

I think to beat Lando today was going to be tough, so well done, well done to him,” Piastri said. “It’s been a pretty messy weekend so far, so to come out with a lap that I thought was pretty good and third is a decent result.

Overcoming Monaco’s Two-Stop Rule for Tomorrow’s Race

Piastri will be hoping that Monaco’s new two-stop rule will help him move through the pack in tomorrow’s grand prix, as overtaking has historically been difficult on the streets of Monte Carlo. Stay tuned for the latest F1 Monaco Grand Prix news, expert analysis, photos and videos here.
