Four-time world champion Max Verstappen has made a heartwarming announcement, sharing the news of his daughter’s birth with partner Kelly Piquet. The proud parents have named their little bundle of joy Lily.
A New Chapter for Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet
Taking to social media, Verstappen shared two beautiful images, one featuring him, Piquet, and their newborn daughter. Overwhelmed with joy, he penned a heartfelt message, “Welcome to the world, sweet Lilly. Our hearts are fuller than ever – you are our greatest gift. We love you so much.
This exciting news comes after Verstappen was granted special permission to miss media day ahead of this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix. It is speculated that Lily made her grand entrance into the world around 8pm on Thursday, with her father by her side.
A Growing List of F1 Dads
Lily is Verstappen and Piquet’s first child together. Piquet also has a daughter named Penelope from a previous relationship with ex-F1 driver Daniil Kvyat. Verstappen shares a close bond with Penelope, whose grandfather is the legendary triple world champion Nelson Piquet.
Despite becoming a father, Verstappen has assured fans that he will not alter his driving style. He said, “I have done it already, so it is not like it is completely new for me. Now it is my DNA, let’s say it like that, but I think it is absolutely fine and I know the baby will be in good hands anyway. So for me, you focus on your racing and then go back to your family.
Nico Hulkenberg, the only other father on the F1 grid, has joked about hoping Verstappen’s first child is a “good sleeper”. Hulkenberg, whose daughter was born in 2021, expressed his hope that they will have many beautiful and nice experiences together.
Other fathers who have recently competed in F1 include Sergio Perez, Kevin Magnussen, Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Romain Grosjean, and Felipe Massa.
