Four-time Formula 1 champion, Max Verstappen, has recently given a sneak peek into his off-track adventures by sharing his experience of a test drive at the Nürburgring in a Ferrari 296 GT3. While other F1 drivers are basking in their racing break, the Dutchman opted for an undercover role to participate in this thrilling test.
Max Verstappen’s Interest in GT3 Racing Unveiled
Known for his love for high-speed racing, Verstappen has been expressing his fascination towards GT3 racing for quite some time now. He is the proud owner of the Verstappen.com team that competes in the GT World Challenge. Moreover, he has participated in numerous tests with this car.
The latest test was part of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie’s test and setup sessions. Initially, Verstappen attempted to keep his participation under wraps, adopting the pseudonym Franz Hermann to avoid unwanted attention. However, he has since shared his track time on social media.
Red Bull F1 team principal, Christian Horner, previously spoke about Verstappen’s interests beyond Formula 1 to Goodwood. He explained, “Max is his own man. It’s clear from all the conversations covered by the media that he doesn’t see himself as a Fernando Alonso or Lewis Hamilton, around in the sport for the next 15 years or so. He enjoys driving GT cars, simulators, LMP cars. He’s very old school in many respects; he just wants to drive. Some of the noise and circus around Formula 1 doesn’t sit comfortably with him.
Horner further added, “I think that so long as he’s getting the enjoyment out of what he does, he’ll do it. But as soon as that enjoyment drops, he’s got the strength of character and personality to say, ‘Do you know what? I’m going to go and drive GTs next year.’ He’s unique in that sense; Formula 1 doesn’t define him. He’s doing it because he enjoys and loves it, and as soon as that enjoyment and love dips, he will go and do something else.
