Lewis Hamilton Discusses Controversial Radio Exchanges at Miami GP
Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, has addressed the comments he made over team radio during the Miami Grand Prix. In a bid to convince his Ferrari F1 team to grant him a switch with Charles Leclerc, Hamilton suggested that “people might not like them” and dismissed them as merely “sarcastic.
Hamilton’s Frustration Behind Leclerc During Race
Reflecting on his race, Hamilton admitted feeling frustrated while stuck behind Leclerc on the medium tyres. He believed that he could have made progress had the Ferrari pit wall acted sooner. Eventually, conceded and Hamilton managed to close the gap on the Mercedes driver, but progress seemed to stall out.
To give Leclerc a chance to catch Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Ferrari decided to enact a switch-back, which Hamilton felt could have been executed sooner. Despite his frustration, Hamilton expressed optimism about his race performance.
Hamilton’s Radio Comments Under Scrutiny
Hamilton accepted that the team had a challenging job in ensuring equal treatment for both drivers, but he believed that the faster car should be prioritized and a switch-back should be considered if the move couldn’t be made. His main issue was with the team’s insistence that it would “come back to him” over radio calls, and he requested quicker decisions from the team.
After the race, Hamilton met with his team manager, Fred, and reassured him that his comments were not as severe as they seemed. He acknowledged that the pressure within the cars can lead to less than peaceful messages during intense racing situations.
