Lando Norris Secures Monaco Pole Position with a Smarter Approach
Lando Norris clinched his first pole position since the season opener in Australia, breaking a string of disappointing Saturdays at the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix. His impressive performance was the result of “driving smarter,” rather than faster, he said.
A Mix of Factors Contributed to Norris’s Success
McLaren gave Norris and team-mate Oscar Piastri two runs on their final set of tyres, which Norris utilized effectively. He first set a time of 1m10.125s, before improving to 1m09.954s on his second attempt, breaking the track record.
Norris attributed his success to a combination of factors, including improvements with the car and from himself. He emphasized that he is just as quick this season, but it was his smart driving style in Monaco that made the difference.
The Importance of Monaco Pole Position for Norris
For Norris, the pole position at Monaco holds significant meaning due to his recent struggles. However, he stopped short of calling it a breakthrough, stating that he would only feel he had turned the corner in qualifying if he could repeat the results at the following races in Barcelona and Montreal.
Despite not labeling it as a breakthrough, Norris acknowledged that this pole position was a significant step in the right direction for him. He expressed his happiness about the improvement but emphasized the importance of consistency in future races.
