Lando Norris Reflects on Formula 1 Qualifying Performance

McLaren racer Lando Norris candidly acknowledged his qualifying shortcomings in the lead-up to the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, expressing dissatisfaction with his performance throughout the season. The Briton will start tomorrow’s race from fourth position, behind George Russell, Max Verstappen, and teammate Oscar Piastri, who clinched pole position.

Norris’ Reflections on Qualifying Performance

I made a lot of mistakes,” Norris admitted to reporters in Italy. “Never good enough in my final lap in qualifying. Everyone goes quicker, and I always go slower. Just not good enough.

This season, Norris trails Piastri four to three in the qualifying head-to-head, a disparity he acknowledged when speaking with Sky TV after qualifying. “None of my performances in Q3 have been strong enough this year,” he stated.

Identifying Areas for Improvement

The five-time race winner is yet to pinpoint the exact areas where he’s losing time, but he has been reluctant to blame his McLaren car, which Piastri has been racing to great success this season. “I’m not going to just blame the car,” Norris added.

Despite these challenges, Norris remains optimistic about his chances during the race. He believes that McLaren‘s recent mastery of tyre wear could offer opportunities for him to make up positions in the race. “I have to just hope the tyres die very quickly,” he said. “I think we can do better as a team than others, maybe that will open up my chances to do overcuts or undercuts on the guys ahead.
