Pirelli Unveils Vibrant Podium Caps for Select 2025 F1 Races
Breaking tradition, global tire supplier Pirelli has announced it will provide colorful special edition podium caps at 14 out of the 24 Formula 1 races in 2025. This marks a significant departure from the black Pirelli-branded caps that have been handed to successful drivers after each race since 2011.
A New Era for Podium Celebrations
Historically, the top three finishers in each race received black Pirelli-branded caps as part of a long-standing tradition. However, on several occasions, such as at the first United States Grand Prix in Austin 2012, Pirelli has deviated from this norm. For instance, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, and Fernando Alonso were given cowboy hats instead. Last year in Sao Paulo, Max Verstappen, Esteban Ocon, and Pierre Gasly received yellow hats inspired by Brazil’s national colors and Ayrton Senna’s helmet design.
This innovative approach is now being incorporated into the new designs that Pirelli is producing in collaboration with designer Denis Dekovi, starting with this weekend’s 2025 season opener in Melbourne. The top three finishers in the Australian Grand Prix will receive green and cold podium caps, followed by red and gold and blue and gold caps at the subsequent races in China and Japan.
Honoring Cultural Identity Through Design
According to a Pirelli statement, designer Denis Dekovi pays homage to the traditions and cultural identity of the country hosting the grand prix through the use of color and materials. With over 30 years of experience in the world of sportswear, Dekovic brings his vision to the table, creating exclusive pieces that embody performance, precision, and prestige, reflecting Pirelli’s pursuit of excellence both on and off the track.
Fans can purchase their own versions of these unique hats ahead of the new season starting, with a UK price of £65. This is significantly higher than the price for headwear produced by teams and the F1 organization itself.
