A Remarkable Career Ascent in Motorsport: The Story of Claire Dubbelman

Growing up with a passion for racing, thanks to her automotive journalist father, Claire Dubbelman embarked on an exciting journey that led her from watching Formula 1 races as a child to becoming a key figure in the world of motorsport.

Early Beginnings and Education

After completing her degree in international communication at the age of 21, Dubbelman found her calling in the automotive industry. Her first job was in the marketing department of Carver, followed by a stint in Formula Renault. This initial experience provided a solid foundation for her future endeavors.

With a wide range of tasks to handle, from arranging trophies and writing press releases to maintaining sporting regulations, Dubbelman gained valuable skills that would serve her well throughout her career.

The FIA and Formula 1

In 2017, Dubbelman joined the FIA as a Championship Manager, overseeing junior series like Formula 2 and Formula 3. Her hard work and dedication eventually led to a role as a Race Control Operator in Formula 1 in 2022, where she ensured the Race Director’s decisions were executed through the FIA systems.

In 2024, Dubbelman was promoted to Deputy Race Director, moving one seat to the left from her previous role. As Deputy Race Director, she is responsible for sending the safety car onto the track and directing medical services during races.

Achievements and Future Goals

In 2023, Dubbelman received an FIA Race Director Super Licence, making her the first Dutch national, the first woman, and the youngest person ever to hold this prestigious title. She is proud of these accomplishments, particularly being the first woman to achieve this milestone.

Despite facing challenges as one of the few women in high-level motorsport positions, Dubbelman sees progress within the FIA and hopes for more female representation in the sport.

Continued Growth and Development

Looking ahead, Dubbelman aims to continue developing her skills, particularly in circuit homologation, to prepare herself for potential future roles within Formula 1. She is determined to grow and learn, ensuring she is ready when opportunities arise.
