Ferrari’s 2025 Formula 1 Campaign Off to a Rocky Start

The 2025 Formula 1 season has been far from ideal for Ferrari, currently sitting fifth in the championship with just 17 points after two races. Despite high expectations and pre-season favoritism alongside McLaren, the Scuderia has failed to deliver the desired results thus far.

A Tough Start for the SF-25

The SF-25, one of the best cars in the field, has been plagued by bad luck this season. In Melbourne, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton showed promising pace but ended up seventh and eighth on the grid due to Ferrari‘s mismanagement during qualifying. A mixed-weather race further complicated matters, with gambling on staying out on slicks as the rain returned to Albert Park. Both drivers had to pit again, resulting in an eighth and 10th place finish.

Disqualifications and Struggles Continue

Hamilton took sprint pole and won the shorter race of the Chinese Grand Prix weekend, but Ferrari‘s struggles continued during the remainder of the weekend. They finished just fifth and sixth on Sunday, and to add insult to injury, both drivers were disqualified: Leclerc’s car was underweight, while Hamilton’s rear skid block was excessively worn.

A Look Back at Previous Struggles

Ferrari‘s disappointing start in 2025 is not unprecedented. In 2020, the team collected just 19 points after two rounds, finishing fifth and its worst result since 1980. The 2014 season was also challenging, with Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso scoring only 30 points after two races, eventually finishing third in the constructors’ championship.

A Brief History of Ferrari’s Struggles

Going even further back, the 2009 season saw Ferrari start with no points after two rounds due to technical issues and poor performance. This was the last F1 season with the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points system, but ‘s struggles were evident even then.
