Formula One Stars Gather for Private Screening of F1 The Movie

As the world eagerly awaits the global release of F1 The Movie, the glitz and glamour of the Monaco Grand Prix provided the perfect backdrop for a private screening attended by Formula 1 drivers and their partners. The official F1 TikTok account captured the excitement as the stars arrived in style at the event.

Stars Arrive in Style

Mercedes driver George Russell made a grand entrance with his partner Carmen Montero Mundt by his side, arriving in his AMG ONE hypercar. Lewis Hamilton also turned heads as he pulled up in the back seat of a Ferrari Purosangue. Meanwhile, reigning world champion Max Verstappen was streaming to Twitch from his apartment under the account name @FranzHermann69.

Toto and Susie Wolff were among the attendees, with several other team principals also invited to the exclusive showing.

A Unique Collaboration

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on Top Gun: Maverick, F1 The Movie promises to be a blockbuster when it hits cinemas next month. The film, originally titled F1 but now marketed as F1 The Movie, sees Hollywood joining forces with the world of Formula One to create a unique production.

With drivers confirmed to appear on screen alongside the official cast, and Hamilton himself playing a significant role in the movie’s creation, this level of collaboration is unparalleled.

A Thrilling Plot

The plot revolves around Brad Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, being coaxed out of retirement to help a small but promising F1 team, APXGP. Partnering with the young rookie driver Joshua Pearce (played by Damson Idris), the two embark on a journey to build the team from the ground up.

Scenes were filmed during real Grand Prix weekends, providing the production team with unprecedented access to on-track racing footage and real cars. In fact, the fictional team was given a fully functional pit garage at the races it attended, housing Pitt’s and Idris’ cars – two modified Formula 2 cars built by Mercedes.

An Inside Look into the World of Formula One

Speaking about the production process, director Joseph Kosinski revealed that he reached out to Lewis Hamilton for help in gaining access to the world of Formula One. Hamilton, being a key figure in the sport, introduced Kosinski to Toto Wolff, the Team Principal of Mercedes. It was Wolff who came up with the idea of using real race cars to film, and the production team eventually bought six F2 cars to build the racing scenes around them.

Every time you see Pitt or Idris driving in the movie, they’re actually behind the wheel of a real Formula 1 car on a real racetrack. This approach lends an authenticity to the film that is sure to captivate audiences.

Release Dates

F1 The Movie will be released internationally on 25 June, following its release in the United States and Canada two days earlier. Get ready for a high-octane blend of Hollywood and Formula One!
