Sergio Perez in Discussions with Cadillac Formula 1 Squad and Other Teams

Mexican racing star Sergio Perez is reportedly in negotiations for a three-year contract with the upcoming Cadillac Formula 1 team, but other options are also on the table. The six-time grand prix winner has been without an F1 seat since parting ways with Red Bull at the end of 2024.

Perez’s Desire for Multiple Options and Cadillac’s Interest

Perez himself expressed his intention to explore all possibilities, stating he wanted “at least six months to get all my options on the table.” One of these potential opportunities appears to be with Cadillac, set to make its F1 debut in 2026. The American outfit is understood to be facing competition from at least two other teams for Perez’s signature, but this depends on driver movements.

Team boss Graeme Lowdown has emphasized the importance of experienced drivers for their new team. “We are going to be quite busy talking to a few people,” he said in March. “What’s a little bit difficult because of the situation that we’re in as a new team, the timeline isn’t as laid out as it normally is.

Lowdown also hinted at the possibility of an American driver joining the team, but remained non-committal when asked about it during the Bahrain GP in April. He stressed that they would select drivers based on merit, not nationality. “We’ve got a lot to choose from,” he said.

The Future of Cadillac’s Driver Lineup

Perez is expected to make a decision on his future this month. Should he choose Cadillac, the identity of his teammate remains uncertain, with the squad considering numerous options. Given that it’s an American marque, a driver from the States has been suggested, but Lowdon remained coy about this possibility in April.

The news comes ahead of this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, where Cadillac will be hosting a launch party in the Florida city on Saturday evening. The team is eager to build a strong driver lineup for their F1 debut in 2026. As Lowdon himself put it, “The team’s here to stay.
