Annual Charity Football Event in Monaco Supports Two Important Causes
The annual Racing Stars Football Cup took place at Monaco’s iconic Stade Louis II on Wednesday, 21 May. This exciting charity football match brought together former and current Formula 1 drivers, celebrities, and sports legends for a memorable event before the Monaco Grand Prix. Despite being the home hero, Charles Leclerc chose not to participate in the game.
Mika Hakkinen Serves as Ambassador for the Cause
Two-time F1 champion Mika Hakkinen graciously accepted the role of ambassador for this noble initiative. Ahead of the event, the Finnish former driver expressed his enthusiasm: “I was honored and thrilled when Louis Ducruet and his team asked me to be part of this initiative, especially since the event will support two important causes. I strongly encourage everyone to come and be part of the celebration this year.
Proceeds from the Racing Stars Football Cup, which has been held for over three decades, will be donated to two charities closely linked to motorsport. The first is the Jules Bianchi Association, established after the tragic passing of F1 driver Jules Bianchi in 2015. The association supports the Archet Hospital in Nice. Jules’ father, Philippe Bianchi, shared his feelings: “This initiative touches me deeply, as it will bring together several F1 drivers just before the Monaco Grand Prix, which was so important for Jules.
Be Safe Monaco Raises Awareness on Dangers of Drinking and Driving
The second cause supported by the event is Be Safe Monaco, founded by Camille Gottlieb. This organization aims to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving. Gottlieb emphasized the impact of having personalities from the world of motorsport involved: “Having personalities from the world of motorsport involved clearly helps amplify our message. Being part of such an event is a privilege and validates the relevance of our cause.
F1 Drivers Take on the Barbagiuans in Exciting Matchup
The match featured an impressive lineup, with Alpine driver Pierre Gasly serving as captain for the F1 drivers’ team. Joining him were Williams’ Carlos Sainz, Aston Martin‘s Fernando Alonso, rookie drivers Andrea Kimi Antonelli, and Oliver Bearman. They faced off against the Barbagiuans – a team made up of football and other sporting legends.
