[Cadillac Formula 1 Team Remains Untouched by US Tariffs]
General Motors president Mark Reuss has disclosed a potential $5 billion hit from tariffs imposed by United States President Donald Trump, but assures that it will not impact the Cadillac Formula 1 team. With the automotive industry grappling with uncertainty due to Trump’s tariff plans, Reuss stated that GM could face a significant financial void as a result.
[Cadillac’s Long-term Strategy to Avoid Tariffs]
Despite this potential setback for General Motors, Reuss is confident that the Cadillac F1 team will not be affected. When asked about the impact on , he replied, “No, it doesn’t. It’s an important question, and we’re working very hard.” He explained that they are striving to bring as much production into the United States as possible to avoid tariffs, but not at any cost, and this process does not happen overnight.
Reuss further clarified that there is no quick fix for becoming tariff-free. He mentioned that the earnings review and guidance issued recently indicates about $5 billion of impact for them, but this project will not be affected.
[Cadillac’s Global Sponsorship Strategy]
With Reuss certain that the team will not suffer internally, the F1 newcomer has also garnered significant interest from potential sponsors and partners. Dan Towriss, chief executive of TWG Motorsports (Cadillac’s umbrella company), shared during a Miami Grand Prix roundtable that having a title partner is part of their commercial strategy, with McLaren being the only current team without one.
When asked about American partners being key, Towriss responded, “Yes, but not exclusively.” He emphasized that while they want to have key American brands as anchors in their plan, they are on a global stage, so this is not an America-only strategy. Towriss added that there has been tremendous interest from potential partners, and many conversations are taking place for partnerships.
Towrss further mentioned that there will be announcements of these partnerships very shortly, but he couldn’t be happier with the response to the Cadillac Formula 1 team.
