Winning the Race for Max Verstappen with Cutting-Edge Technology
Aston Martin, under the leadership of Managing Technical Partner Adrian Newey, is gearing up to build the best car in Formula 1 (F1) to attract world champion Max Verstappen. With a superteam assembled at their brand-new Silverstone headquarters, aims to challenge for the title under F1’s new regulations.
Building a Winning Team at Aston Martin
Newey joined forces with CEO Andy Cowell and former Ferrari tech chief Enrico Cardile on 3 April. The team has also secured Honda as its 2026 engine partner, setting the stage for an exciting future in F1.
Despite the rumors linking Verstappen to Aston Martin, including a $1b offer from owner Lawrence Stroll, Red Bull’s improving form makes it more likely that the four-time world champion will stay for 2026. However, Newey believes that the key to attracting Verstappen lies in building a competitive car on the track.
Speaking to select media at the Monaco Grand Prix, Newey expressed his admiration for Verstappen and emphasized the importance of delivering a fast car to make Aston Martin attractive to the reigning world champion. He also mentioned that working with double F1 champion Fernando Alonso is a long-term goal and expressed his belief in Lance Stroll’s underrated talent.
Newey praised Alonso as a “cool character” and revealed that he had always wanted to work with both Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, although he could only work with one of them. He also defended Lance Stroll, stating that he has been unfairly criticized when compared to his teammates such as Checo Perez, Nico Hulkenberg, Sebastian Vettel, and now Fernando Alonso. Newey believes that any driver who makes it to F1 is very good, but Lance Stroll is much better than people give him credit for.
