Fernando Alonso Bids Adieu to His Trusty Companion, Fabrizio Borra

In a heartwarming tribute on social media, two-time Formula One world champion, Fernando Alonso, bid a public farewell to his friend and long-serving physiotherapist, Fabrizio Borra. The emotional message read: “I’ll miss you, Fabri. Every day. Thank you for teaching me so much and making me a better person and athlete. My whole career with you has been the greatest good fortune I could have. Rest in peace, brother.

A Long-Standing Partnership Comes to an End

Reports from Italy confirmed that Borra, 64, passed away on Sunday morning after a long battle with cancer in the city of Forli. Born in Brescia, Borra had been a constant presence in Alonso’s professional life since the Spanish driver made his debut with the Minardi team back in 2001.

Over the years, Borra was an integral part of Alonso’s backroom team during his two world championship wins with Renault and accompanied him throughout his career, including stints at Ferrari, McLaren, Alpine, and Aston Martin. His expertise was not limited to Formula One as he also worked with MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso and cyclist Marco Pantani.

Borra was also renowned for his role in helping Michael Schumacher recover from a broken leg he sustained in an accident at the 1999 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Alonso’s Struggles Continue as He Awaits Team Improvements

Meanwhile, Alonso has faced a challenging season with Aston Martin, failing to score a single point in the opening six races. The team’s boss, Andy Cowell, admitted that they were “not a happy camp.” When asked in Miami if he believed his team had developments coming that could help him challenge for points, Alonso replied: “I’m trying to do my best behind the wheel, but this is a good question for our managers. They know what is in the pipeline, they work really hard, we support them. But we cannot talk about the technicality of the car and the upgrades because we are not in the loop every week.”
