Haas Rookie Praises Upcoming F1 Movie After Monaco Screening
Haas rookie driver, Oliver Bearman, has showered praise on the upcoming Formula 1 movie after attending a private screening in Monaco ahead of the Grand Prix. Despite acknowledging that it’s presented “in a bit of a Hollywood way,” Bearman was full of admiration for the film.
The Most Ambitious Motorsport Film Ever Produced
Titled simply F1, this upcoming movie is arguably the most ambitious motorsport film ever produced. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also helmed Top Gun: Maverick, and starring Brad Pitt, the project boasts an impressive pedigree. The story revolves around Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a veteran racer who returns to Formula 1, joining forces with young rookie driver Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) to revive a struggling team named APXGP.
With unprecedented access to Formula 1 race weekends and the guidance of Lewis Hamilton, who served as executive producer, fan expectations are sky-high. The grid was invited to a private screening before the Monaco race weekend, although Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll were unable to attend.
Those who did make it shared their thoughts with Motorsport.com and other media outlets, including Bearman. “I thought the movie was fantastic,” said the British driver. “It really captures what we go through, albeit in a Hollywood style.
Amplifying F1’s Fanbase and Showcasing Technology
Bearman believes the movie will boost Formula 1’s already massive fanbase. “It’s going to make people want to watch F1,” he said. “The onboard shots and the work they did were actually quite incredible – it was impressive to see the technology they can use.
While there are some cinematic tropes, Bearman found these entertaining rather than inaccurate. “There were some funny parts, but it was meant to be like that,” he continued. “Of course, there are some things that aren’t fully accurate… but I think it makes it super captivating for the audience.
A Warning for a Small Minority of Viewers
Bearman ended with a word of caution to a “small minority” of viewers. “There’s a small minority of us that will maybe find that a bit untrue, but I think for the majority it’s going to be a fantastic movie.
