Ferrari Driver Charles Leclerc Expresses Concern Over Car’s Low-Speed Weakness for Upcoming Monaco GP
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, fresh off his triumphant home win at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, is expressing caution about repeating that success this weekend. Last year, Leclerc finally broke through around the streets he once roamed as a child, securing his first home win from pole after years of heartbreak and near-misses.
Ferrari’s Struggles in Low-Speed Corners Could Impact Performance at Monaco
The popular victory led to emotional scenes post-race, marking an encouraging start for Ferrari with one win each for Leclerc and his former teammate Carlos Sainz, as well as seven further podiums. However, McLaren quickly stole the limelight, leaving Ferrari to grapple with a dip in form that it eventually overcame by year’s end.
Despite Ferrari‘s ongoing efforts to salvage its 2025 season, the SF-25’s main weakness in slow-speed corners is a significant concern for Leclerc, given the unique layout of the Monaco circuit. When asked about his chances of another home win, Leclerc replied: “If I’m honest, they’re low because unfortunately, our car hasn’t been particularly strong in low-speed corners, and there are only low-speed corners here in Monaco.
On paper, the Monaco Grand Prix doesn’t appear to be a promising track for Ferrari. However, Leclerc remains hopeful, stating: “Monaco is so unique and different from anything we race on over the season that we can have a good surprise once we put the car down tomorrow – which I hope will happen.
With Monaco’s layout focusing primarily on low-speed performance, teams like Ferrari may find unexpected performance gains. Leclerc agrees, stating: “That’s definitely one of the questions we also asked ourselves coming here. The answer, we’ll have it on track tomorrow.
Despite the challenges, Leclerc still harbors hopes of replicating last year’s success, stating: “I still have hopes that we can reproduce what happened last year. Obviously, it’s still very fresh in my mind to come back in this paddock. The last time I was here, we won, and it was a very special moment for me.
