Yuki Tsunoda’s Regretful Incident in Emilia Romagna Grand Prix Qualifying

Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda has expressed his apologies to the Red Bull team following an “unnecessary” and “stupid” crash during the qualifying session for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. This unfortunate incident will see him start tomorrow’s race from the back of the grid.

The Crash in Qualifying at Imola

Tsunoda encountered a mishap during the initial phase of qualifying in Imola, losing control of his RB21 and colliding heavily with the inside wall. After this incident, he was taken to the medical center for precautionary checks and was later cleared by on-site doctors.

Once released, Tsunoda acknowledged his role in the “unnecessary” incident, stating, “Yeah, I’m just really stupid… pushing like that.” He further explained, “This is very hard, and we made a lot of changes to the car. So, you know, pushing that hard without understanding enough about the car and just… yeah.”

As the dust settled on his violent crash, Tsunoda expressed feelings of “ashamed,” “disappointed,” and “frustrated.” This accident marked his first in a Q1 session in four years, since he crashed in Q1 at the 2021 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

Impact on Red Bull’s Mechanics

With significant damage to his RB21, Tsunoda’s team of mechanics now faces a lengthy repair job to prepare the car for tomorrow’s grand prix. “I haven’t talked with them yet, but the only thing I can do is apologize to them,” Tsunoda added.

Despite this setback, Red Bull’s other driver, Max Verstappen, will line up second for the race, just behind the McLaren of Oscar Piastri.
