Lewis Hamilton Struggles with Inconsistent Brakes at Ferrari

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has expressed concerns about the inconsistency of his brakes this season, likening it to a “lottery.” During the first practice session for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend, Hamilton spent much of the time complaining about brake issues over team radio.

Adapting to New Braking System at Ferrari

Hamilton is still adapting to the Brembo brakes used by Ferrari, having spent more than a decade driving with Carbon Industrie brakes at Mercedes. “P1 was good,” he said after Friday’s practice session, according to RACER. “I was really happy with the car in P1. I felt like we had made a step forward and I was feeling really positive.

He explained that he had made minor adjustments to the car, which should have had minimal impact, but these changes were overshadowed by brake issues that significantly affected performance. “We had some brake issues that made a massive difference,” he said. “That’s been quite a big issue all year actually. I’ve never experienced that before. So that’s a new thing for me this year.

Despite making a slight improvement in performance, Hamilton remains uncertain about how to achieve consistency with the brakes. “It’s not the transition, it’s the performance… It’s a lottery. We roll the dice and you put one [set of brakes] on and it works and you put another on and it doesn’t. So I hope tomorrow we figure something out. We’re working on it, for sure,” he added.
