New Lead Commentator Announced for Formula 1 Season

After a successful first full season covering Formula 1, Harry Benjamin has been announced as the new lead commentator for Sky Sports F1. This change comes ahead of the 2025 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

David Croft Steps Back for Personal Reasons

Previously held by David Croft, the role has seen a shift due to Croft’s decision to step back slightly for personal reasons. In an interview with The Independent last year, Croft explained his choice: “It’s more about keeping fresh for the whole season. I’m not getting any younger.

He further added that he wanted to give some time back to his family and not be on the other side of the world, as well as organizing his upcoming wedding. Croft also mentioned that the triple headers do take their toll, leaving one pretty exhausted by the end.

Harry Benjamin’s Background and Achievements

Benjamin, who has filled in for Croft for a number of races in 2024, has led the BBC Radio 5 Live F1 broadcast since 2022. Aside from his experience in motorsports broadcasting, Benjamin has a background in the performing arts, having trained as an actor at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

In 2019, he took a role as a presenter at Autosport International. He later worked as the lead presenter in Formula 2 and 3, the Intercontinental GT Challenge, and the Porsche Super Cup.

Benjamin’s Excitement for His New Role

Following his successful first full season covering F1, Benjamin posted on social media in December 2024: “First full season covering Formula 1 = DONE!” He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside so many brilliant people and looked forward to leading the @skysportsf1 coverage, a dream come true.

Benjamin also thanked everyone behind the scenes who gave advice, feedback, and even an opportunity, calling them legends. With this new role, fans can look forward to Benjamin’s unique perspective and engaging commentary during the 2025 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and beyond.
