Potential Teams for Sergio Perez in the 2026 Season

Despite not racing this season, Mexican Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez continues to make headlines. While some media speculated his appointment within the Cadillac team during the Miami GP weekend event, Perez’s options remain open to more than one team, as Motorsport.com has reported.

Alpine’s Interest in Perez

Alpine is not a new name for Perez. In the past, when the team was still known as Renault, Perez was among the favorites to secure one of the seats. Although nothing materialized then, a photo leaked on Perez’s website featuring him with a “Renault” sign hints at his potential connection with the team.

Currently, Alpine is undergoing a restructuring process following changes in its board of directors over the past two years. The most recent departure was that of Oliver Oakes, with Flavio Briatore taking over as team manager. Briatore is seeking significant budget and has secured new sponsors following the promotion of Franco Colapinto for five races. Should an agreement be reached, Perez could bring in additional support.

Mercedes’ Interest in Perez

Mercedes is another team showing interest in Perez for the 2026 season. A driver move is necessary, specifically the departure of George Russell. Toto Wolff, head of the German team, has shown sympathy towards Perez in the past, appreciating his development work and loyalty. However, the situation at is complex, and everything depends on Max Verstappen.

If Verstappen decides not to continue with Red Bull until his 2028 contract, Christian Horner may consider Russell as a possible replacement, leaving a seat vacant at Mercedes. Should Verstappen move to Aston Martin, Wolff would be interested in Perez’s services to become Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s teammate. Perez has already demonstrated his ability to support his teammate, as he did with Verstappen against Lewis Hamilton in 2021.

Cadillac’s Option for Perez

The American team, Cadillac, also knows Perez’s potential to help develop cars, as he demonstrated at Sauber and Force India/Racing Point. Additionally, Perez brings economic support and a fan base in the United States. However, any of these three options is yet to be defined. Contrary to some media reports, Perez has not signed a contract with .
