Formula 1 Drivers Express Traffic Frustrations in Sprint Qualifying
The Miami Grand Prix witnessed a flurry of complaints from drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Jack Doohan regarding traffic issues during the Formula 1 sprint qualifying. These traffic snarls left several racers unable to set times in the final moments of Q1.
Traffic Woes Affect Performance of Key Drivers
Yuki Tsunoda was displeased with the traffic hindrance that affected not only his sole lap during Q1 but also his subsequent attempt to set another time at the session’s end. The emergence of Oliver Bearman’s Haas from the pitlane forced him to slow down on his initial lap, leaving him insufficient time for a second try due to congestion in the pit lane.
Jack Doohan also encountered pit lane traffic, as he failed to apply enough lock to move into the fast lane, which stranded him. His mechanics had to pull him back, and by then, several cars had overtaken him, rearranging the order of departure from the pits. Doohan attributed his team’s simultaneous release of Pierre Gasly as a factor that impeded his exit from the pit lane. All three drivers were eliminated in Q1, along with Bearman.
Drivers Reflect on Missed Opportunities
Doohan expressed regret over his botched qualifying and was frustrated on the radio following his Q1 elimination. He believed he could have improved his second lap, had he been able to exit the pit lane in time. The Australian anticipates a challenging Saturday race but hopes that the team can gather valuable data to boost his chances of securing his first F1 points on Sunday.
Looking Ahead to the Race
The sprint will be a tough challenge, but both drivers aim to learn as much as possible from this experience for the main race and focus on improving their qualifying performance.
