Madrid’s Madring Circuit: A Hybrid Masterpiece for Formula 1
Get ready for an exhilarating blend of street racing and high-speed thrills as we introduce you to Madrid’s upcoming F1 circuit, Madring! On Friday, the organizers unveiled the 5.47km layout that will take over hosting duties for the Spanish Grand Prix starting from September 2023. Joining Barcelona on the calendar in 2026, Madring is poised to become Spain’s sole F1 venue and a must-visit destination for racing enthusiasts worldwide.
A Hybrid Circuit with Character
The layout of Madring is a captivating fusion of tight street circuit sections around the IFEMA exhibition center and a purpose-built, more open half featuring high-speed corners and steep banking around the Valdebebas festival grounds. As an ambassador for the event, Carlos Sainz reassured his fellow F1 drivers that this new home track will be anything but ordinary.
The drivers have asked me about the circuit, the corners, the layout… I’ve told them not to worry, that I’m going to try to help as much as possible to make the circuit a good show,” Sainz said. He emphasized that what he and his fellow drivers seek in an F1 circuit is charisma and character, with plenty of corners to keep things interesting.
Citing examples like Baku and Jeddah, both urban circuits with unique characteristics, Sainz explained that Madring aims to embody the same spirit by combining a hybrid layout featuring tight urban sections and an open, more traditional European circuit-like feel. The banked corners and fast corner sequences are designed to appeal to drivers and provide a spectacle for fans.
A World-Class Event in Spain’s Capital
With the venue located on the outskirts of Madrid, close to the Barajas airport and well-connected fairgrounds, Sainz is confident that Madring can elevate the Spanish GP to one of the best events on the F1 calendar. He believes that the concerts, activations, and overall atmosphere around the city will contribute significantly to its success.
Everything that will be around it, all the concerts and all the activations will help the city a lot,” he argued. “I think we can have the best circuit in the world and the best event of the whole calendar.” With 24 races on the schedule, including Mexico, Miami, and Las Vegas, Sainz is optimistic that Madrid can compete with the best and become a favorite among F1 fans.
So, gear up for an unforgettable experience at Spain’s new F1 circuit, Madring! With its unique blend of urban and traditional elements, combined with high-speed thrills and a vibrant atmosphere, this is one event you won’t want to miss.
