Lewis Hamilton’s Newfound Momentum with Ferrari
Seven-time Formula One champion, Lewis Hamilton, has left the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend feeling rejuvenated following his fifth-place finish. After a challenging qualifying session, Hamilton demonstrated resilience and adaptability, turning a disappointing ninth place into a promising podium contender.
Struggling in Qualifying, Shining in the Race
Despite placing 0.931 seconds behind pole-sitter Oscar Piastri during qualifying, Hamilton showcased his racing prowess by quickly dispatching competitors on the race grid. Meanwhile, teammate Leclerc lost positions at the start of the race.
Hamilton’s perseverance paid off as he finished in fifth place and was awarded the driver of the day accolade. His Saturday disappointment transformed into newfound motivation.
Adapting to a New Driving Style
In an interview following the race, Hamilton discussed his ongoing adaptation process with the Ferrari machinery.”I think what’s clear is—as humans, we’re really stuck in our ways,” he reflected. “I’ve been driving a certain style for such a long time with the same team.
He elaborated on the differences between his previous car and the current SF-25, particularly the use of engine braking and brake systems. While these changes didn’t significantly improve his qualifying performance, they contributed to his impressive race pace.
Learning from His Team-mate’s Approach
Comparing his approach to that of team-mate Leclerc, Hamilton explained the differences in their strategies.”I think what’s clear is that Charles starts with a setup and he stays with it pretty much all weekend,” Hamilton continued. “I was a long way away from him last weekend, and this weekend just before qualifying I got close to him—but then all the settings were all off.
He emphasized the need for simplicity in his approach, stating, “I’ve got to make it easier for myself. I’m just doing it all the hard way at the moment.
Optimism for the Future
Despite these challenges, Hamilton expressed growing optimism about his performance.”I think I’ve figured out how the car likes to drive, so hopefully, if I can apply that next week—if I can qualify better—I can have a much better weekend,” he said. “I know I can, and I will.
Hamilton ended on a hopeful note, “If I can qualify better—I can have a much better weekend. So, we’ll see.
