Australian Grand Prix: Isack Hadjar’s Unfortunate First Formula 1 Race

The much-anticipated start of the Australian Grand Prix took an unexpected turn as Racing Bulls driver, Isack Hadjar, crashed during the formation lap. Lewis Hamilton’s father, Anthony, was there to console him as he made his way back to the paddock.

The Fateful Incident on the Track

In an attempt to heat his tyres, Hadjar accelerated hard at Turn 2, causing his car to spin and crash into the wall. The impact damaged the rear wing assembly, effectively ending his first Formula 1 race before it even began.

Despite this disappointing start, Hadjar, a rookie driver, seemed unharmed and managed to exit the car unassisted. The race has been aborted and delayed, with a new start scheduled for 3.15 p.m. local time.

Racing Bulls’ New Hope: Yuki Tsunoda

With Hadjar out of the race, Racing Bulls now looks to Yuki Tsunoda to bring points home. The Japanese driver will start from fifth position.

Speaking to the media, including Motorsport.com, Hadjar expressed his regret, saying, “Just embarrassed and sorry for the team.” He explained the incident, stating, “I overdid it, over-slipped the rears, and once I lost control, I was just a passenger. It snapped so fast.”

A Moment of Support from Anthony Hamilton

In a touching moment, Anthony Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton’s father, consoled Hadjar after his crash. Hadjar appreciated the gesture, stating, “It means a lot knowing that he knew where I was. How bad I felt, to go and see me in the worst moment ever, I think it’s nice just from him.”

Looking Ahead: The Chinese Grand Prix and Reflections on the First Race

Despite the unfortunate incident, Hadjar is looking forward to the Chinese Grand Prix. He expressed his eagerness to return to the track, stating, “I’m really looking forward to being in Shanghai. I think the speed is here, so I just can’t wait to hit the track.”

In a previous interview, Hadjar discussed the pressure he feels, saying, “I feel the pressure I put on myself to perform, but external pressure will always be a bit lower than that.” Team principal Laurent Mekies also commented on the need to isolate Hadjar from external pressures.

As Hadjar walks back to the paddock, Anthony Hamilton is there to embrace him, offering words of support in this challenging moment.
