Potential Drivers for the Upcoming Cadillac F1 Team

As Cadillac gears up for its entry into Formula 1 in 2026, speculation about potential drivers has been rife. One name that keeps cropping up is Colton Herta, a promising talent who has been linked to the project since its inception.

The Case for Colton Herta as a Cadillac Driver

In a recent interview with Motorsport.com, Mario Andretti, a board director associated with the Cadillac project, expressed his belief that Herta was the leading candidate to drive one of the new team’s cars. Juan Pablo Montoya, a successful racer in both F1 and IndyCar, echoes this sentiment.

Montoya believes that Herta has what it takes to make the transition to F1, but he emphasizes the need for thorough preparation. “There’s a chance he could do it, 100 percent,” Montoya said. However, he also hinted at a possible role for Herta as a reserve driver initially.

Despite the potential benefits, Montoya cautions against Herta leaving his current position in one of IndyCar’s top teams, Andretti Global, for an unproven F1 team. He warns that such a move could be risky, as Herta might find himself struggling in a less competitive team where he was once a race winner.

Montoya also points out the potential risk of being replaced if Herta underperforms in F1. “The problem is that if he leaves, they’re going to replace him with someone,” said the former Williams and McLaren driver. He advises caution, as things in motorsport can change quickly.
